  "job_description": "Senior Software Engineer - Backend AI Native\n\nLocation- Glasgow, Hybrid\n\nSalary - £65,000-80,000\n\nAbout Simple\n\nSimple exists to make personalised healthcare easier to access, understand and act on. We’re building a modern, scalable platform from the ground up, powered by AI-native engineering that allows small, senior teams to deliver meaningful impact quickly.\n\nThis is a unique opportunity to join at the earliest stage and directly shape Simple’s platform, engineering standards and future technical direction.\n\nWhat you’ll be doing\n• Join one of Simple’s first AI-Engineering teams a lean, senior, high-ownership engineering squad.\n• Work in a spec-first, AI-native SDLC: AI generates code, tests, and documentation; you architect, review, integrate, and assure quality.\n• Build core components of Simple’s healthcare platform.\n• Own services end-to-end: design, implementation, observability, reliability, performance.\n• Elevate engineering standards across pods, codify reusable patterns, and help define the golden paths for platform development.\nHelp shape the engineering culture as one of the foundational hires, mentoring, pairing, cross-reviewing and sharing knowledge as we grow.\n• What we’re looking for:\n\nEssential\n• Experience building production-grade software in modern languages (TypeScript/Node.js (Preferred), Python, Java, Go - any strong engineering foundation is fine).\n• Experience building cloud-native systems (AWS preferred): Lambdas, ECS/Fargate, API Gateways, serverless or containerised architectures.\n• Strong skills in automated testing, CI/CD, and modern practices.\n• Comfortable working with generative AI tools (or strong willingness to adopt them) to accelerate development.\n• Deep understanding of software fundamentals: architecture, clean code, performance, observability, maintainability.\n• Strong ownership mindset: you care about outcomes, not just code.\n• Excellent collaborator: you work well in small, high-trust environments and you’re comfortable with pairing, knowledge sharing, and cross-pod communication.\n\nDesirable\n• Experience in healthcare, digital services, patient journeys or regulated environments (not required).\n• Full-stack experience: Comfortable working across the stack using React/Next.js when required, though core strengths are backend, cloud-native systems and platform architecture.\n• Experience building scalable platforms, reusable components, or high-leverage engineering systems.\n• Curiosity about AI-native development and excitement about being part of an early shift in engineering.\n\nInterview Process\n• Intro call - meet Talent & understand your motivations.\n• Technical interview - architecture discussion, pairing, AI-workflow exercise.\n• Final interview - culture, ownership, leadership behaviours\n\nPlease note that we are unable to offer sponsorship for this position.
