  "job_description": "Backend Software Engineer - Java\n\nLocation: Edinburgh (Hybrid) | Type: Permanent\n\nThe Role\n\nCapco is growing our Engineering team and we’re looking for experienced Backend Engineers with strong Java skills and a passion for delivering innovative solutions in financial services. If you enjoy solving complex problems, working with cloud-native technologies, and collaborating in agile teams, we’d love to hear from you.\n\nAs a Backend Engineer at Capco, you’ll contribute to high-impact, client-facing projects that shape the future of financial services. You’ll work alongside talented engineers, have access to industry-leading training, and get the opportunity to grow your skills across multiple platforms. You will also get the chance to work across different domains within FS & Energy.\n\nThis role will sit in our Scotland office, with a need to potentially work in either Glasgow or Edinburgh depending on client expectations.\n\nWhat You’ll Do\n• Build and deliver scalable backend services using Java (11, 17+)\n• Design and implement APIs and microservices for enterprise systems\n• Work across cloud platforms, particularly AWS, using best practice deployment techniques\n• Contribute to architecture discussions and solution design\n• Collaborate in agile teams alongside clients, product managers, and other engineers\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\n• Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot\n• Experience deploying solutions into cloud environments (preferably AWS)\n• Understanding of microservices, event-driven design, and cloud-native architecture\n• Strong grasp of SQL and NoSQL databases\n• Solid experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools\n\nBonus Points For\n• Terraform, CloudFormation, or other infrastructure-as-code tools\n• Experience with serverless functions (AWS Lambda, Azure Functions)\n• Messaging systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ\n• Familiarity with security protocols such as OAuth2 and SAML\n• QA automation and integration with third-party platforms\n\nWhy Join Capco\n\nYou’ll be part of a team where your voice matters.
