The Opportunity\n\nWe’re supporting a major UK retail enterprise organisation undergoing a large-scale data platform transformation.\n\nThey are looking for a Power BI Reporting Developer to design, build, and optimise dashboards and datasets on a modern data platform — helping drive data-led decision making at scale.\n\nThis is not a traditional reporting role.\nYou’ll be working across end-to-end BI delivery, from data modelling through to stakeholder-facing insights.\n\n? Key Responsibilities\n\nDesign, build, and enhance Power BI dashboards and datasets on a modern data platform\n\nDevelop robust semantic data models aligned to business definitions\n\nCreate and optimise DAX measures (including complex calculations and time intelligence)\n\nImplement Row Level Security (RLS) and ensure strong workspace governance\n\nWrite high-quality SQL for data transformations and reporting layers\n\nReconcile reporting outputs to source data and validate accuracy\n\nOptimise performance using:\n\nQuery folding\n\nIncremental refresh\n\nEfficient model design\n\nDAX optimisation\n\nSupport UAT cycles, resolve defects, and deliver to tight deadlines\n\nRun show & tell sessions, support users, and drive adoption of dashboards\n\nMonitor usage and continuously improve reporting based on feedback\n\nCollaborate with Data Engineering teams to resolve data issues at source\n\n? Essential Experience\n\nStrong hands-on experience building Power BI dashboards and datasets\n\nAdvanced experience with DAX and data modelling (semantic models/star schema)\n\nExperience working with modern BI/data platforms (Azure / Fabric preferred)\n\nSolid SQL skills for data transformation and validation\n\nExperience delivering end-to-end BI solutions (not just front-end reporting)\n\nProven experience working in governed environments (release processes, testing, documentation)\n\nExperience supporting UAT and stakeholder delivery under pressure\n\n?? What This Role Is NOT\n\nThis role is not suited to candidates whose experience is primarily:\n\nTraditional SQL BI stack (SSRS / legacy reporting tools)\n\nReporting-only roles without ownership of data models\n\nLimited exposure to modern cloud BI platforms\n\nBasic Power BI usage without advanced DAX or optimisation\n\n? Desirable\n\nExperience with Microsoft Fabric or Azure data services\n\nPower BI certification (e.g. PL-300)\n\nExperience improving report adoption and time-to-insight\n\nStrong documentation skills (data dictionaries, release notes, assumptions)\n\n?
