  "job_description": "Embedded Software Engineer – Embedded Linux & MCU\nLocation: South of Cambridge, UK (good road/rail access)\nType: Permanent, Full-Time\n\nOverview:\nA leading UK engineering consultancy is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer with strong experience in embedded Linux and broader embedded systems. The role offers exposure to diverse projects across sensing, robotics, communications, and IoT, with opportunities to work on both Linux-based systems and bare-metal/RTOS environments.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nContribute to projects from concept through to delivery across multiple sectors, including industrial, defence, and medical.\n\nDevelop software on embedded Linux systems (Arm-based SoCs) and maintain custom Linux images (Yocto, device trees, kernel/user space).\n\nDevelop on RTOS and bare-metal systems across multiple silicon vendors (e.g., STMicroelectronics, Microchip).\n\nSupport system bring-up, board integration, debugging, and performance optimisation.\n\nCollaborate closely with FPGA, electronics, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.\n\nParticipate in project planning, documentation, and maintaining good software engineering practices.\n\nCandidate Requirements:\n\nProven embedded Linux development experience, including Yocto, SoC platforms, and device-tree knowledge.\n\nStrong C/C++ skills; real-time embedded development experience desirable.\n\nAbility to adapt to new technologies and a motivation to work in a consultancy environment.\n\nExperience with higher-level languages for tooling/test automation (e.g., Python, C#/.NET) is a plus.\n\nBroader embedded experience (RTOS, bare-metal, hardware interfacing, DSP, protocols, state machines) advantageous.\n\nCapable of diagnosing complex system-level issues and reading electronics schematics.\n\nStrong communication skills and ability to produce technical documentation.\n\nBenefits & Culture:\n\nCompetitive salary and excellent package.\n\nStimulating consultancy environment with variety and new challenges.\n\nSupport for career progression and professional development.\n\nFriendly, collaborative workplace with regular social events",
