  "job_description": "Job Title: Graduate Electronics / Software Engineer\n\nLocation: On-site Monday – Friday in Cambridge, Gloucestershire\n\nType: Full-time\n\nSalary: £30K–£37K dependent on experience\n\nAbout Us\n\nWe are an early-stage engineering start-up developing innovative solutions to technical challenges in the field of precision engineering. Our team is small, fast-moving, and collaborative, and we value practical skills, curiosity, and initiative. You’ll have the opportunity to work directly on the design of products from concept through to fully functional prototypes.\n\nThe Role\n\nWe are looking for a motivated Graduate Electronics / Software Engineer to support the design, development, and testing of electronics and embedded software systems for new products and technologies. This role sits at the heart of our R&D activity and is ideal for a graduate with a desire to work in an environment that involves hands-on engineering, problem-solving, and working across disciplines.\n\nYou will work closely with mechanical and systems engineers on projects that combine electronics, embedded software, and physical hardware, contributing to products from early concept through to prototype and refinement.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n• Support the design and development of electronic systems\n• Develop, test, and debug embedded or low-level software for hardware systems\n• Build, modify, and test prototypes\n• Carry out system testing, record results, and report findings clearly\n• Debug and troubleshoot electronic and software-related issues\n• Support the integration of electronic systems, software, and mechanical assemblies\n• Assist with the development of higher level software for testing, data acquisition, or automation\n• Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and components stock\n• Assist with transitioning designs from concept through to functional prototypes\n\nAbout You\n• Degree in Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline\n• Interest in working at the interface of hardware and software\n• Understanding of core electronic engineering principles\n• Understanding of and basic experience with software development (e.g. C/C++)\n• Comfortable using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies\n• Able to read and interpret schematics and technical documentation\n• Methodical, organised, and detail-oriented\n• Able to work independently and manage your own tasks\n• Curious, adaptable, and keen to learn in a fast-paced environment\n• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail\n• Good communication and teamwork skills\n• Eligible to work in the UK\n\nDesirable Skills (Not Essential)\n• Embedded systems or firmware development experience (e.g. PIC, ARM, Arduino, NXP)\n• Familiarity with microcontrollers, sensors, or control systems\n• Experience with PCB design tools (e.g. KiCad, Eagle)\n• Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git)\n• Experience with higher level software development (e.g. .NET)\n• Soldering and electronics assembly experience\n• Exposure to real-time systems, automation, or data acquisition\n• Experience working in a start-up or small engineering team\n\nWhat We Offer\n• The opportunity to work directly and collaboratively with highly experienced engineers and founders\n• Hands-on involvement in products from early concept to reality\n• A collaborative and supportive team culture\n• Exposure to a wide range of engineering challenges\n• Opportunities to develop new skills and grow with the company\n• Competitive salary and benefits\n\nHow to Apply\n\nPlease email your CV and a cover letter explaining why you’re interested in the role to admin@kemptechnology.co.uk",
