  "job_description": "Job Purpose\n\nTo design, develop, implement and maintain the University’s corporate Salesforce platform, providing solutions across the administrative, teaching and research functions of the university in accordance with agreed University objectives. To lead the delivery of substantial Salesforce solutions which maximise service quality and efficiency and meet service standards and requirements.\n\nMain Duties and Responsibilities\n\n1. Lead initial investigations in the early stages of new system development. Gather, analyse and document complex system requirements, working with CRM stakeholders and project teams to ensure that Salesforce-based solutions will meet their needs by supporting business processes effectively and ultimately add value to the University.\n\n2. Design, develop, configure, test, and deploy Salesforce components, including Apex classes, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flows, and APIs, producing detailed design specifications and documentation, and ensuring at all stages that the system delivered will meet user requirements and expectations.\n\n3. Ensure appropriate data architecture, security models, and integrations with university systems, ensuring data integrity and GDPR compliance.\n\n4. Upgrade, maintain, and apply changes to Saleforce solutions, providing full technical documentation where appropriate and ensuring the business impact of changes is assessed and managed.\n\n5. Provide expert advice to users of the system in order for them to utilise the system to its full potential. Respond to support calls from staff and students using the IT Helpdesk System.\n\n6. Provide continued system support to existing systems in order to resolve issues, and ensure that services are consistently available at all times and perform well for the users who rely on these systems in order to carry out their jobs.\n\n7. Plan and manage the work of others when required which may involve a mentoring role, giving direction and instruction to less experienced team members or contractors.\n\n8. Communication with third party suppliers, government bodies, and relevant University offices and committees regarding legislative requirements and University regulations.\n\n9. Stay current with Salesforce releases, features, and best practices, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation.\n\nKnowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience\n\nKnowledge/Qualifications\n\nEssential:\n\nA1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and management skills in a similar or number of different specialist role(s) Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, 10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of professional experience in a management role(s) and experience of personal development in a similar role.\n\nA2 Deep technical knowledge of Salesforce architecture, configuration, and development tools.\n\nA3 A strong understanding of secure software development principles.\n\nA4 Knowledge of Agile development practices: e.g. story point estimation, SCRUM ceremonies.\n\nA5 Salesforce Platform Developer I certification.\n\nDesirable:\n\nB1 Salesforce Platform Developer Platform Developer II certification.\n\nB2 Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator certification.\n\nB3 Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud Engagement Administrator certification.\n\nB3 Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Git, VS Code, and DevOps pipelines.\n\nB4 An understanding of GDPR and DPA legislation.\n\nB5 Knowledge of digital accessibility requirements including WCAG standard.\n\nSkills\n\nEssential:\n\nC1 Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to architect substantial technical solutions.\n\nC2 Proficiency in Apex, SOQL, Lightning Web Components (LWC), and Salesforce APIs.\n\nC2 Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into scalable Salesforce configurations.\n\nC3 Ability to lead and mentor other developers, and introduce new development practices and technologies\n\nC4 Effective communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional teams.\n\nC5 Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.\n\nDesirable:\n\nD1 Integration experience using middleware such as MuleSoft or Dell Boomi.\n\nD2 UI/UX awareness in relation to Salesforce user experience.\n\nD3 Familiarity with Higher Education data models and student lifecycle processes.\n\nExperience\n\nEssential:\n\nE1 Substantial full systems lifecycle experience, including requirements analysis and writing technical specifications.\n\nE2 Experience implementing a Salesforce platform in a large, complex organisation.\n\nE3 A consistent track record of developing complex end-to-end solutions using Saleforce.\n\nE4 Experience of planning workload using own judgement and initiative to estimate and deliver, including assigning tasks to junior staff.\n\nE5 Experience working in cross-functional teams and agile delivery environments.\n\nE6 Experience in integrating Salesforce with third-party platforms.\n\nE7 Experience in developing custom objects, triggers, flows, and Lightning components.\n\nDesirable:\n\nF1 Prior experience in the education sector.\n\nF2 Participation in system testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and go-live support.\n\nTerms and Conditions\n\nSalary will be Grade 8, £50,253 - £58,225 per annum.\n\nThis post is full time and open ended.\n\nClosing date: 23:45 2nd April 2026\n\nThe University of Glasgow has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
