Collaboration, openness to feedback, and a developing understanding of software development processes and best practices are key, along with the motivation to progress against transparent, pre agreed criteria as you build your expertise.\n\nWhat you’ll be doing:\n• Developing high quality, secure, and maintainable software that supports Jisc’s services.\n• Working across the full software development lifecycle, planning, designing, coding, testing, documenting, and releasing features.\n• Collaborating with product owners, users, and team members to understand requirements and translate them into clear development tasks.\n• Participating in Agile ceremonies, pair programming, peer reviews, and collaborative problem solving sessions.\n• Writing automated tests and contributing to testing activities and release cycles.\n• Designing and building RESTful APIs and working with relational or document databases.\n• Applying Jisc policies, coding standards, and best practices\n• Staying flexible and contributing across different projects as organisational priorities evolve.\n\nWhat we are looking for:\n• Experience working in a software development environment.\n• Ability to write clean, readable code and deliver complete solutions to typical development tasks.\n• Ideally knowledge of C# and/or Typescript, React, SQL, GitHub, and Azure DevOps or AWS, though good knowledge of modern software development languages and practises and a willingness to learn is more important than specific technologies.\n• Understanding of RESTful API design, automated testing, and secure coding practices.\n• Familiarity with source control tools and version control workflows.\n• Strong communication skills and the ability to understand stakeholder needs.\n• A collaborative mindset, contributing positively in meetings, supporting teammates, and engaging in pair programming and peer reviews.\n• Curiosity, willingness to learn, and openness to new technologies and approaches.\n• A commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive team culture.\n\nDon’t meet every single requirement?\n\nWe know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they think they can’t tick every box, so we encourage you to apply even if you do not meet 100% of the requirements, but if you feel this role is perfect for you.
