  "job_description": "ABOUT YOU\n\nThis role is ideal for an experienced scientist with a strong foundation in biophysics and large-molecule analysis, who enjoys working independently, applying technical expertise to complex analytical challenges, and collaborating closely with colleagues and clients.\n\nYou will bring strong technical capability, confidence in method development and validation, and the ability to communicate clearly on scientific and commercial matters.\n\nRequired skills and experience:\n• BSc, MSc or PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline\n• Strong experience working with biophysical characterisation techniques for biopharmaceutical products\n• Proven experience of method development, optimisation and validation\n• Experience working in a GxP-regulated laboratory with a solid understanding of GMP and GLP\n• Experience working with large molecules and proteins\n• Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:\n• Spectroscopic techniques (e.g. Circular Dichroism, FTIR)\n• Thermal characterisation techniques, including Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and thermal transition analysis\n• c-IEF, CE-SDS, SDS-PAGE\n• Oligonucleotide and/or mRNA analysis\n• ELISA and plate-based residual impurity assays\n• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work autonomously and apply scientific literature where required\n• Good IT, numeracy, and data interpretation skills\n• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage directly with clients\n• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet timelines\n\nABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY\n\nOn a daily basis, you will work as an independent member of the Biophysical Characterisation team, delivering high-quality analytical services to pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical clients.\n\nThe role involves working across projects of varying scale, scope and complexity, with opportunities to apply specialist knowledge, develop new techniques, and contribute to both technical delivery and commercial success.\n\nKey activities:\n• Perform independent method development, optimisation and validation using a range of biophysical characterisation techniques\n• Plan, execute and interpret analytical work with minimal supervision\n• Generate high-quality data, reports and technical documentation in line with regulatory requirements\n• Deliver analytical services in accordance with GMP and GLP standards\n• Ensure studies meet quality, regulatory and client expectations\n• Troubleshoot complex analytical challenges and develop fit-for-purpose solutions\n• Communicate confidently with clients on technical matters, including results interpretation and study strategy\n• Support Business Development through technical input into quotations and proposals\n• Demonstrate commercial awareness when planning and delivering analytical work\n• Support the training and mentoring of junior colleagues\n• Collaborate proactively with colleagues across teams to ensure efficient project delivery\n• All work will be carried out in accordance with Intertek procedures, regulatory standards, and safety requirements.\n\nWHAT WE OFFER\n\nJoin Intertek and become part of our global network of inspiring and entrepreneurial colleagues.
