Description

About the Role Are you tired of your models living and dying in a Jupyter Notebook? CVIMSA Technologies is seeking a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to bridge the gap between state-of-the-art research and real-world deployment in Sheffield. We are not building toy applications. At CVIMSA, we are teaching machines to understand the physical world with sub-millimeter precision. Whether it’s industrial inspection, autonomous navigation, or medical imaging, our algorithms solve problems where "95% accuracy" isn't good enough. We need a Senior Engineer who understands the math behind the layers—someone who can read an ArXiv paper on Monday and have a working prototype by Friday. You will architect deep learning pipelines, optimize models for edge inference, and mentor a bright team of junior engineers. If you want to push the boundaries of what pixels can tell us, this is your lab. Key Responsibilities • Model Architecture: Design and train custom Deep Learning models (CNNs, Vision Transformers) for object detection, semantic segmentation, and anomaly detection. • Edge Optimization: You won't just train on A100s; you will deploy to the edge. Experience with TensorRT, ONNX, or model quantization (pruning/distillation) to run on NVIDIA Jetson or embedded Linux devices is critical. • Pipeline Development: Build robust data ingestion and augmentation pipelines. You will own the MLOps lifecycle, ensuring reproducibility and version control (DVC/MLflow). • Algorithm Design: Implement classic Computer Vision techniques (OpenCV, geometric vision, SLAM) where Deep Learning is overkill or requires hybrid approaches. • Technical Leadership: Code reviews, architectural decision-making, and mentoring junior data scientists. You set the standard for code quality (Python/C++). What We Are Looking For • Education: MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Mathematics, or Physics (or equivalent commercial experience). • The Stack: Expert proficiency in Python and PyTorch (or TensorFlow). Strong familiarity with C++ for production deployment is a massive plus. • Deep Learning: You understand the internals of architectures like YOLO, ResNet, U-Net, and ViT. You know why a model isn't converging without guessing. • Maths: Strong grasp of linear algebra, probability, and optimization algorithms. • Problem Solving: You are comfortable working with messy, real-world datasets, not just MNIST or COCO. Why Work With Us? Sheffield is a city of makers, and CVIMSA is at the heart of its tech renaissance. We offer the intellectual rigor of a research lab with the agility of a startup. You will have access to high-compute clusters and the latest hardware. We support a hybrid working model because we know deep work requires deep focus. Plus, with the Peak District on your doorstep, your work-life balance is built-in. Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Pay: £65,000.00-£85,000.00 per year Benefits: • Health & wellbeing programme • Private dental insurance • Private medical insurance • Shuttle service provided • Sick pay Work Location: In person
